Hello Neighbor - UnrealEngine MissingScript

Hello Neighbor is a game that both delighted and infuriated me, and I think the best example I can give for what I mean is that there are secret rooms where you can find error messages. The exact error is “UnrealEngine MissingScript,” and it’s shown on a circle in an otherwise black room.

I can’t tell if this is a deliberate joke or a complete oversight by the development team. On one hand, Hello Neighbor is weird (and occasionally meta) enough that I could see an unfinished room as the exact sort of gag they’d try to get away with. And it’s not been patched out, despite the game being updated several times and ported to every current console. But Hello Neighbor is also janky enough that you would expect to find mistakes like this that aren’t intentional. And plus, there’s no Trophy or Achievement for finding it.

Anyway, if you’re wondering where you can find the error message in Act 3, I’ve put together a video guide. All you need in order to find this is to have the elevator shaft unlocked. Once you do that, you can follow the path laid out in the video below.

Like I mentioned earlier, there’s no reward for finding this. But the fact that it’s hidden behind a wood panel that’s deliberately patterned differently than the surrounding room seems to imply that the devs placed it there intentionally.

This error actually has its own Wikipedia page, but the descriptions for where to find these are kind of vague, so I thought I’d throw together this guide to help folks find one of the weirder areas in this super-weird game.

And that’s how you find the “UnrealEngine ScriptMissing” error room in Act 3 of the original Hello Neighbor.
