The Witcher 3 - Camera Zoom Distance

One of the new features in the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition is a more closely zoomed-in camera. This is more of an over-the-shoulder perspective where Geralt is positioned off to the left side of the screen instead of the center, and the screen cuts off at about knee level rather than showing his entire body.

Some people might dig this new perspective; others might miss the original. Personally, I’m a big fan of the original, and I found the closer camera perspective to be difficult to get used to. I always feel like I can’t quite see as much of the world as I would like to.

For reference, here’s a screenshot of the new zoomed-in camera view:

And here’s a screenshot of the old camera view:

Thankfully, you can toggle between these views, so if you’re into the over-the-shoulder perspective, that’s cool! But if you want to experience the original camera style, that’s cool too!

This option is buried in the Gameplay section of the menu, and you probably have to scroll through the menu to find it. There are actually three different toggles:

  • Exploration Camera Distance
  • Combat Camera Distance
  • Horseback Camera Distance

The zoomed-in option is called “Close,” while the original option is called “Default.”

That means you can have the zoomed-out perspective for exploration, with the over-the-shoulder view for combat, or for horseback riding. The world is your oyster!

Personally, I’m a Default guy all the way. I have all three of these options toggled to Default instead of Close. Perhaps it’s because I have such fond memories of the original version of the game, or maybe it’s just that I like a further camera perspective in general. Who’s to say?

Anyway, that’s how you adjust the camera zoom distance in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition. It’s a simple thing, but it can be a little bit tricky to locate this specific menu option, especially if you’re expecting to find it in one of the Display submenus. So I hope this guide helps you find your perfect zoom level!
