Pronty

Did you ever play Song of the Deep? You know, that slightly obscure underwater Metroidvania from Insomniac Games? Yup, the studio that brought us all-time hits like Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive, and Marvel’s Spider-Man once made an indie-like 2D action-adventure game. It was awesome, and you should check it out if you haven’t.

While we’re on the topic of underwater adventures, though, it’s worth mentioning that there’s another such game coming to Nintendo Switch from developers 18Light Game, FunZone Games, and Joy Brick Inc. It’s titled Pronty, and it looks like a solid underwater Metroidvania in its own right.

In Pronty, you’ll explore an interconnected underwater world as you take down huge bosses and try to discover what’s causing all the pollution that’s destroying the ocean. You’ll battle enemies using different abilities like a dash attack, buzzsaw-like spin attack, and even a robot companion.

The game has a nice hand-drawn look to it, with some scenes featuring a more anime-like style to them. It all looks pretty cool, and if you enjoyed games like the aforementioned Song of the Deep or 2013’s Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians, this looks like it’s right up there with those kinds of games.

Pronty originally launched on Steam, where it received a lot of praise from the community. As such, it’s nice seeing a game with a solid following heading to a new platform. It’ll release on Nintendo Switch on March 7, 2023.
