Nightingale

When Nightingale was first announced back at The Game Awards in 2021, I thought it had an interesting art style, but I wasn’t too sure what to expect from the moment-to-moment gameplay. I mean, it had base building and crafting elements on display, as well as a decent amount of first-person shooting, but the finer details still felt a little elusive.

Now, with the latest trailer courtesy of Summer Game Fest 2022, I have a clearer picture. I have to say, I am definitely intrigued.

The art style is Victorian, with an almost-steampunk-but-no-quite aesthetic. But now we know that traditional survival mechanics seem to be at play here, from chopping down wood and harvesting animals for resources and presumably for food, to cooking and camping mechanics. This all takes place in a world connected by an arcane portal network, which you seem to be at the mercy of and also reliant upon in order to survive what appears to be events or waves of enemies.

There is still a lot to be revealed yet, including a release date, but from what I can piece together from this new trailer, it looks like Nightingale has a unique enough twist on the survival genre, with an art style that stands above what one might normally expect from these kinds of games. In some ways it reminds me of a more adult looking We Happy Few.

You can check out the trailer below, and you should wishlist Nightingale now on Steam.
