The Entropy Center

It’s been over a decade since Portal 2 came out, and with Valve seemsingly allergic to the number 3, we might never see a third mainline game in that fantastic series (though at least the Portal: Companion Collection will be bringing the Portal games to Nintendo Switch). Thankfully, developer Stubby Games is stepping in to fill the void with The Entropy Centre, a game that can perhaps be best summed up by the term Portal-like.

The Entropy Centre is basically Portal without the portals. It’s a first-person puzzle game that has a robot guiding your character through a series of test chambers, and apparently you attempt an escape of some sort (which apparently involves “rewinding Earth”). The visual aesthetic is very similar to that of Portal 2, with broken wall panels reclaimed by vegetation.

Of course, instead of shooting portals, it looks like your gun will instead reverse time. One puzzle shown off in the trailer has the player reversing a collapsed bridge back to a functional state, while most of the other puzzles involve moving crates around.

I’m honestly super excited about this game. I’ve been through both Portal games multiple times, and I’ve not found anything else that scratches that very specific itch. The Entropy Center might finally be the game that does the trick. I would be super happy if this whole Portal-like thing catches on in a big way.

The game is scheduled to release for PS4, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at some point in 2022. You can check out the Future Games Show 2022 trailer for The Entropy Center below.
