Like most aspects of Craftopia, the character creator feels like a work in progress. As you explore your customization options, you’ll see that several features, like beards and face paint, are coming soon. There are additional races, like elves and demons on the horizon, but for now, you can only make a garden-variety human.

But in spite of that, the Craftopia character creator never feels all that limited. It can’t compare with Black Desert Online, but it’s already on par with plenty of recently released titles, like My Life at Portia and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

There are quite a few faces to choose from, from cherubic faces straight out of an anime to the face of a grizzled old warrior. There are plenty of skin, eye, and hair colors to choose from, as well as a variety of hairstyles. Whether you want to recreate Link or make a character that resembles you, you can probably tweak your way something you’ll be happy with.

What I like most about the character creator is the level of flexibility that it offers. All the options that are currently available are open to you. You can pair any hairstyle with the face of your choosing, and you can use your preferred face with any body type. You can choose to specify your character’s gender or “not applicable.” This freedom makes it easier to create a character that really feels like your own.

This isn’t the sort of character creator you can spend hours in, but it’s still pretty great. While are already several characters living in my Craftopia world, I’m looking forward to adding more once I can make demons and mess around with face paint. Craftopia is far from being finished, but even in its current state, it’s a pretty good time.
