No Man's Sky Next Generation

Ever since things went off the rails for the No Man’s Sky hype train, Hello Games has been a bit cagey about talking about the game. They’ll disappear for three months, then suddenly emerge with news that a fresh update is imminent, usually landing within the next 24 hours (and already having landed, in many cases).

So it was a surprise to see them announce No Man’s Sky Next Generation this morning, especially considering we just had an announcement for the Halloween event a few days ago.

No Man’s Sky Next Generation is the next-gen version of No Man’s Sky, built to take advantage of the processing power available on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. It offers better graphical quality, denser foliage, a much higher cap on maximum base size, 32-player multiplayer, and more.

The best part about all of this is that owners of the current console version can upgrade to No Man’s Sky Next Generation for free (provided they have a next-gen console). Owners of the PC version will get this as another free update.

It’s hard to say how redeeming your free copy will work, but since the game already supports crossplay, I assume you could hypothetically upgrade from PS4 to Xbox Series S/X or from Xbox One to PS5. I can’t say for certain that this is the case, but it seems very likely.

Either way, I’m excited to get back into my ship and explore this beautiful, procedurally generated universe once more.
