Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

In Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, there is a Trophy called Never Saw It Coming, which requires you to “Clear an Enemy Base without being detected.” Basically, you have to take down every enemy in one of the game’s six enemy bases without being seen. Enemies will be alerted to your presence once guards start disappearing (they’ll shout for you to show yourself), but you won’t fail the challenge unless you get seen.

For this Trophy, you can choose any of the enemy bases, but I went with the Underground Hideout in the Upper West Side. The way enemies are spaced out makes this one not especially difficult (some of the other bases feature really tight clusters of enemies, which can make this more challenging).

Here’s where that is on the map:

Once you start the mission, you’ll want to stay as high up as possible. This should prevent you from getting snuck up on by enemies you didn’t notice. Keep in mind that the enemies here have rocket boots, so they can jump up onto platforms easily, which makes it really easy to get caught in the blink of an eye. Take your time and watch enemies carefully.

My methodology is to pick off enemies one at a time using Perch Takedowns whenever possible. Perch Takedowns allow you to take out enemies without dropping down into danger zones. Remember, you can scan using R3 to see if an enemy is marked as “SAFE” or “DANGER.” Wait until an enemy is marked “SAFE” before performing a takedown.

If you can’t get into position to use the Perch Takedown, you can also use a Web-Strike Takedown, but these are a little riskier because they cause you to quickly drop into an area without getting a proper chance to look around first. If you have to use a Web-Strike Takedown, it’s smart to pop invisibility as soon as the takedown animation completes so that you don’t get spotted by a guard who just happens to turn around at the exact moment you’re performing the takedown.

A note on invisibility: Some people would tell you to use it a lot here. For me personally, invisibility causes me to play more recklessly than I would otherwise, so I use it sparingly. It’s also really easy to stop paying attention to your meter and have it run out while you’re surrounded by enemies, which is a surefire way to get yourself caught. So definitely use it — it’s a really powerful tool in your stealth toolkit, after all — but don’t use it as a replacement for caution.

Eventually, guards start getting nervous, and they’ll go off to investigate areas where other guards have been incapacitated. You can use these opportunities to pick off enemies that normally stand around in groups. Of course, when all else fails, you can shoot some webs to distract guards and break up groups.

Take your time. There’s no time limit, so don’t take any unnecessary risks. I cleared this one on my first try (keep in mind that I came into Miles Morales fresh off an Ultimate difficulty playthrough of the previous game), but keep in mind you can always revisit bases you’ve cleared to try again if you need to.

Here’s my full stealth clear of the Underground Hideout in the Upper West Side for the Trophy in case you want to see all of these pointers in action:

And that’s how you earn the Never Saw It Coming Trophy in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Does the yellow question mark stop you from getting the trophies?
