Coromon

Are you an old-school Pokémon fan who misses the glory days of top-down pixel art? If so, the newer Pokémon games probably fail to scratch that particular itch like they used to. Thankfully, an upcoming game called Coromon could be a balm for that itchy skin of yours. Well, I think the itch metaphor might be wearing a little thin at this point…

During E3 last year, I sat down with a couple of the devs from TRAGsoft (virtually, of course) to talk about the game and get my hands on an exclusive demo. (To clarify, there was a Coromon demo available to the general public, but the demo I played was a different one that was specifically made for E3.) What I discovered was a delightfully charming game that feels a lot like Pokémon but still manages to preserve its own identity. (You can read much more about that in my full preview article.)

Today, TRAGsoft and publisher Freedom Games announced that Coromon will be landing on Nintendo Switch and PC and Mac via Steam on March 31, 2022. That means you won’t have to wait too much longer to add this one to your collection.

Coromon

In describing the game, TRAGsoft founder Jochem Pouwels said:

Coromon is our modern take on a classic and beloved genre. Everything from the built-in difficulty options to the expanded control over stat customizations, squad combinations, and more, it’s all to create a personal and tailored experience for creature catching trainers that have been asking for this for decades. Coromon is finally almost here to give the people what they want!

The game features more than 120 Coromon to catch, collect, and battle across the game’s six biomes. It also has a built-in “Nuzlocke mode” for those who really want to crank up the difficulty.
