Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Update: This game-breaking bug has been fixed with Title Update 1.1.2. The original article appears below in its entirety.

I very recently documented just a small sampling of the bugs I’ve encountered in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In that article, I mentioned that, despite all the weird glitches and bugs I’d been finding, nothing I’d experienced was game-breaking.

Well, dear friends, it looks like I spoke to soon. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there is a game-breaking bug that will prevent you from completing the final assassination in the game. There’s a simple way to avoid it, so I’ll walk you through that, but for some of us, it’s already too late.

In the game’s menu, there’s a chart that shows you all the Order members you’ll be tasked with killing throughout your hundred-plus-hour journey through Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. You can see by looking at this chart that every kill is leading up to the final assassination, the Father.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Whenever you complete a kill, you’ll acquire a medallion. Once you have enough medallions, you can give them to Hytham at the Hidden Ones Bureau in Ravensthorpe.

The way this is supposed to work is that you’ll save some of the assassinations until after you’ve completed the main story (the final proper story arc is Hamtunscire, in case you’re wondering). You’ll then complete the assassinations in post-game and give Hytham the last of the medallions. Once he has the last of the medallions, he’ll appear outside of the Ravensthorpe longhouse to reveal the Father’s identity and trigger the quest “The Poor Fellow Soldier.” If you do things in this order, you should be fine (though no guarantees… this game is quite buggy, after all.

However, if you kill all the Order members and hand in their medallions before you complete the Hamtunscire arc, there is a bug that prevents Hytham from going to the longhouse. This means you’re locked out of completing the final assassination, seeing the game’s epilogue, and collecting Thor’s Cape, which you’ll need if you want to acquire Mjolnir. There are Trophies/Achievements for completing the final assassination and for collecting Mjolnir, so this sting is extra painful for completionists and Trophy hunters.

This does appear to be a known issue, so hopefully we see a fix soon. However, since the game is more than two months old at this point, it’s seeming less and less likely that Ubisoft considers this a priority. We did already make it through several updates and a seasonal event without seeing a fix for this issue. Ubisoft has listed this particular item as “under investigation,” which puts it outside of the batch of fixes we should expect to see in the near future.

So if you’re playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and you’re not done with your assassinations, you’ll want to hold off until after you complete the Hamtunscire story arc. We don’t know if this will be fixed any time soon, so it’s best to avoid the issue altogether if possible.

I completed the Hamtuncire arc, I have 44 medallions, 6 codex pages, When I give Hytham the medallions, he still won’t go to the longhouse. I’ve tried going to Vinland and back; still no “Soldiers” quest. Ubisoft is a bunch of incompetent wokesters.

I’m just playing this now and hit this bug. I’ve done everyone in the game but can’t trigger the father. My entire order page is red except the father. My inventory has only 14 medallions so I can’t hand them over. Is the father the 15th medallion?

I have 240 hours in and I have 14 medallions and it won’t unlock. He just won’t come outside.
