Death Standing

When starting a new game in Death Stranding Director’s Cut, I was presented with a number of options and settings, one of which was whether to leave the in-game font at its default size or to switch to a larger one. Without any real in-game examples to tell the difference between the two options, and not remembering having issues while playing the original Death Stranding, I decided to stick with the default size option.

At first, I didn’t really have any qualms about the font size. I mean, it was a little small, but not incomprehensible. However, after some longer late-night sessions, in which I was trying to sift through the walls of text in emails and item descriptions, I started having some trouble. The game’s text became — quite literally — an eyesore.

So I decided, while in the middle of a delivery, to dive into the settings to adjust the font size. And even though I found the setting in the language option of the systems menu, the font size box and toggle were grayed out.

As it turns out, you have to back out of the game to the main menu and make the switch there. Then, when you continue your save and open the options menu again, you will see that it has been switched to large, and the text itself is marginally larger. And when I say marginally larger, that is exactly what I mean; it’s not a big difference. But I guess anything is better than nothing.

So, if you find yourself in a similar boat and need to enlarge the in-game text font, you will have to save your game, back out to the main menu, and make the switch there. For whatever reason, even though the option is presented as a toggle in the in-game menu, there is no apparent option to actually change the font in that way.

It’s annoying, but it’s not the end of the world.
