Sniper Elite 5

Sniper Elite 5 is fast approaching, with its May 26 release date right around the corner. If you’ve been following the coverage here at Half-Glass Gaming, then you already know that we’ve covered previous trailers in the media blitz for the game, and our crew even got to play it for a little bit.

Today yet another trailer has dropped, so we’re going to take a look at this one too. The new Features Trailer runs down some of the returning features from previous entries in the long-running series, as well as some that are new to this sequel.

First up, Rebellion has gone to some lengths to improve the feel of the game, and how series protagonist Karl Fairburne interacts with the game world. Whether that be crawling through grass or clambering along the side of a stone bridge, it looks like we can expect enhanced or more precise controls, as well as better character animations. The trailer also totes enhanced gunplay physics, which looks to perhaps translate to a more streamlined approach to gauging the distance of a target and better predicting where your bullet will strike.

Sniper Elite 5 also features full campaign co-op (admittedly, that’s not something I am particularly geeked about, since I like my sniping solo in addition to being elite).

One new feature we haven’t seen in previous entries in the Sniper Elite series is the all new Invasion Mode. It looks like if you have this mode enabled, random player-controlled snipers can drop into your game and try their best to get the drop on you, tracking your moves from the shadows, hoping to pop a little bit of that pink mist. I am kind of interested to see how this mode works, as it could lead to some cool or interesting interaction.

Of course, there is an update to the X-ray kill cam, although I didn’t notice anything especially different from previous versions. I will say, however, that the weapon customization feature looks reasonably deep, and I am very much looking forward to seeing how in-depth it goes and how easy it is to find the components required to do said customizing.

With each new trailer, I get more and more excited to fire up Sniper Elite 5. The levels on display in this trailer in particular suggest far more variety, freedom, and options for the player. It really looks like it is leaning into what I loved most about the original Sniper Elite.

You can check out the new trailer below, and you should definitely also check out our hands-on coverage for Sniper Elite 5 courtesy of Rebellion. Sniper Elite 5 launches May 26, 2022 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. It will also be on Xbox Game Pass.
