Hitman: World of Assassination - Gate 47

Hitman: World of Assassination‘s Freelance Mode is finally here, and I’m completely in love with it. The mode also comes with a boatload of unlocks, so I’m going to walk you through absolutely everything that can be unlocked or acquired in Freelancer game mode (just like I did for the main game — you can see that ridiculously huge guide by clicking here).

Now, I should point out that I made a similar list for the beta. Instead of updating that list, I’m going to keep that one live and make a fresh guide for the final release. Hardcore Mode

Hitman 3 - Freelancer Mode

First up, let’s talk about Hardcore mode. This is a much more difficult game mode that is unlocked when you beat your first Freelancer Campaign. Remember, a Freelancer Campaign is made up of four series, so you won’t unlock this until you complete all four series in a single Campaign.

Mastery Unlocks

Hitman - Safehouse Mastery Level

You’ll earn Safehouse XP while you’re out on Freelancer missions, and that will cause your Safehouse Mastery to level up (similar to how locations work in the game’s campaign mode). Each level comes with some rewards. Aside from the Merces, which can be lost if you die out in the field, and Thematic Weapons (which I’ll explain in the Thematic Weapons section of this guide), the rest of these unlocks are permanent.

I should point out that some of these unlocks have an asterisk next to them, which means they are Deluxe unlocks. I believe that means you must own the Deluxe Edition of the game in order to have access to these items.

Cosmetic upgrades from the other paid DLC packs are not included here.

Weapons

Hitman 3 - Weapons

There are a couple ways to acquire weapons. You can either loot them off of guards in levels, or you can buy them from vendors scattered across the game. The locations of these vendors is randomized, and their shop selection will be randomized as well.

You’ll notice these items in the world because they have a Rarity level. If an item has no Rarity level, taking it back to the Safehouse will not bank it. If you take a weapon out of the Safehouse and die, you will lose that weapon.

Thematic Weapons

This last category of weapons is a little odd because it doesn’t function like the others.

When you unlock a Thematic Weapon, you will have to manually add it to the case by interacting with the unlock icon. After that, you can lose these weapons out in the field, just like any other weapons. However, if you lose one, it can later show up as part of a vendor’s supply so you can buy it back. This means you won’t permanently lose a Thematic Weapon. Still, I’d be hesitant to take one out in the field if you’re really going for a full gun rack, because this will be the hardest section to restock after losing a weapon.

There are two different categories here. The first ones are unlocked via Mastery Level, and you’ll unlock one every five levels (except for Level 35, because there’s an unlockable suit there instead). Note that I’ve also posted these in the Mastery section of this guide.

  • The Ornamental Pistol (Rare) – Reach Mastery Level 5.
  • The Ornamental Assault Rifle (Rare) – Reach mastery Level 10.
  • The Ornamental Katana (Epic) – Reach Mastery Level 15.
  • The Ornamental Shotgun (Epic) – Reach Mastery Level 20.
  • The Ornamental SMG (Legendary) – Reach Mastery Level 25.
  • The Ornamental Sniper Rifle (Legendary) – Reach Mastery Level 30.
  • The Ancestral Pistol (Epic) – Reach Mastery Level 40.
  • The Ancestral Shotgun (Rare) – Reach Mastery Level 45.
  • The Ancestral Assault Rifle (Rare) – Reach Mastery Level 50.
  • The Ancestral Sniper Rifle (Legendary) – Reach Mastery Level 55.
  • The Ancestral Knife (Epic) – Reach Mastery Level 60.

The second category requires the Makeshift Pack and the Street Art Pack, both of which are cosmetic DLC packs. I’m guessing we’re going to see more stuff like this in the future to support the long-term profitability of the game.

If you purchase a pack, the suit and the first weapon will be unlocked in Freelancer Mode, while the rest of the weapons will need to be found or purchased while on missions. In the other game modes, though, all of this stuff is unlocked as soon as you purchase and install the DLC. On top of the things listed below, both packs will also add more cosmetic options to your Safehouse.

Tools

Hitman 3 - Freelancer Tools

Tools work kind of the same as weapons, but also kind of different. They’re the same in that you acquire them in the exact same way: Find them out in missions or buy them from vendors. However, you can also find them in crates in missions (typically, these crates don’t contain weapons, though I’m not sure this is true 100% of the time).

If you fail a Campaign, you will lose all of your tools. They do not carry over from campaign to campaign, so use ’em or lose ’em folks.

What are the differences between regular and Hardcore mode in Freelancer? More cameras? etc.. Do we get to keep the weapons?? Do we earn more XP? I would like to try hardcore mode, but can you switch back if it’s too difficult?

“Hardcore mode is only for the most ambitious freelancers out there. Territories will be on the highest alert at all times, and prestige objectives will be mandatory to both pick and complete. Failing any mission will also fail the campaign, and you lose all of your merces and freelancer tools. Beware that switching between hardcore and normal mode will reset your freelancer tools, All the risks also bear the fruit of greater rewards.”

Unfortunately I don’t think we’re going to see that in this article. This is a low effort slightly cleaned up dump of information that can be found from the start of the game. I’m working on compiling a list myself, but this will take weeks.
