A Plague Tale: Requiem

The long-awaited sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence, titled A Plague Tale: Requiem, has officially released. As is so often the case with game releases, this one comes with a launch-day trailer to celebrate the occasion.

And let me tell you, this two-minute trailer is pretty bleak. Tonally, it almost feels like a Medieval version of The Last of Us, only with way more rats.

One thing I’m curious about is how the themes of the game will land in 2022. The previous game launched in 2019, and the idea of a Medieval pandemic felt like an anxiety from the pages of history. In 2022, though, we’ve recently lived through a modern pandemic, which might make Requiem land a little closer to home.

Will Requiem feel more relevant than ever now, the way Death Stranding did when it was rereleased in 2021? Or will the plague theme just feel like it gets in the way of our collective escapism? So far, the reviews seem to be pretty positive, so I’m guessing the former is more true than the latter. But I guess I’ll have to play the thing for myself to really be able to weigh in on this.

Anyway, you can watch the launch-day trailer for A Plague Tale: Requiem below.

Oh, and did I mention that A Plague Tale: Requiem is free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers? Because it is.
