Horizon Forbidden West

There’s a five-hour countdown to today’s Horizon Forbidden West State of Play livestream event. But rather than fill that five hours with a simple countdown timer, someone decided to just let five hours of environmental game footage roll.

It’s confusing at first. I’m sure a lot of people jumped on at 9 a.m. Pacific Time, expecting the actual event to be happening right then. So it’s a bit disorienting just seeing a camera slowly panning around a game world while environmental sounds play in the background. There is a countdown timer in the upper left-hand corner, but it’s easy to miss at first.

Once you get over the jarring departure from expectations, though, it’s actually kind of relaxing. And you’ll occasionally hear mechanical monstrosities way off in the distance, in between the cawing of crows and the chirping of sparrows. You can even watch day fade into night, and night transition back into day.

I’m not going to watch all five hours, of course, but it’s nice to have on in the background while the gaming community collectively waits for the Horizon Forbidden West reveal later today.

The full reveal is scheduled for 2 p.m. Pacific, which is 4 p.m. for those of us in Central Time.

Enjoy, my friends!
