Super Mario Galaxy

The Mario franchise has been shaping our perception of video games for three and a half decades now. In fact, the series has practically become synonymous with video games in general.

Nintendo announced during today’s Mario Direct presentation that they’re paying homage to three of the great Mario titles with Super Mario 3D All-Stars for Nintendo Switch. This collection includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

Curiously absent from the collection is Super Mario Galaxy 2. In fact, the retrospective video at the end of today’s Direct leaves it out as well. Has Nintendo forgotten it? While it’s generally considered to be weaker than the original Super Mario Galaxy, it’s still a great game. Some Half-Glass Gaming staffers would even argue that it’s better than Super Mario Sunshine, which is included in the collection.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be out on Switch on September 18, 2020, and it will be getting a limited-time physical release as well as a digital release. You can watch the announcement trailer below.
