Diablo II Resurrected

While demon-slaying Diablo fans eagerly await the arrival of Diablo 4 (which we’ve been told will not be arriving this year), we can whet our brimstone appetites with Diablo II Resurrected, which actually is coming out this year (or is intended to come out this year, at least). This is a graphically enhanced but otherwise mostly untouched remaster of the 20-year-old Diablo II.

This is exciting news for one big reason: Diablo II is the only mainline Diablo game that’s never been on a console. The original Diablo ended up on PSOne, and Diablo III has been on pretty much every console that was current during the game’s incredibly long lifespan. I happen to own separate copies of the game on PS3, PS4, and Nintendo Switch (I do love me some Diablo). Plus, when the season strikes each year, you can play a version of the original Diablo inside of Diablo III.

I’m definitely hoping Blizzard learned some important lessons from Warcraft III: Reforged. Still, the fact that Diablo II Resurrected is coming to consoles at all is actually pretty incredible, and I’m sure I’ll be spending upwards of 500 hours in its demon-haunted halls. The game is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and PC later this year (hopefully).
