Hitman 3 - The Black Hat

Hitman 3: Year 2 is the biggest thing in gaming these days. Okay, that’s not really true, but it’s incredibly cool that IO Interactive is supporting Hitman 3 with fresh content and big changes for a second full year. The very first piece of Year 2 content launched just two weeks ago, bringing the Elusive Target Arcade game mode and a fresh unlock for all you masters of unlocking. Of course, that game mode launched in a state of disrepair, but that seems to have been ironed out by now.

We just got word of another change that’s coming to Elusive Targets in Year 2. I’ll let you hear it straight from the horse’s mouth, as IO Interactive posted this on Twitter just yesterday:

Basically, Elusive Targets only exist in the game for about 10 days at a time, and they used to be one-and-done. If you failed one, you could potentially try again if that contract was ever re-released, but if you successfully completed one, it was done forever.

With Year 2, however, that changes. Now, players who completed previous Elusive Targets will get to replay those if and when they return. Plus, second-time completions will even count toward your suit unlocks, which will make some of the Elusive Target suits easier to acquire.

Talk about having your cake and eating it too…

Hitman 3 - The Heartbreaker

And this change comes just in time for the re-release of the Heartbreaker contract on Mendoza.

So that’s the news portion of this article. Now, I want to offer some feedback-slash-speculation, because there are two additional changes I would like to see here. Both of them have to do with suit unlocks.

First, I hope that with the potential to complete even more Elusive Targets, more suits will be added to the unlockables list. Right now, players will earn the Casual Undercover suit for completing 15 Elusive Targets. I would love to see IO add more rewards for, say, 18, 21, and 24.

Second, can we finally see location-specific suits for the maps that never had them? Most of the maps in the game have a suit that can only be unlocked by completing an Elusive Target on that specific map. But Hawke’s Bay from Hitman 2 never seems to have gotten one. And None of the maps from Hitman 3 have their own Elusive Target suit (though they do have suits for level mastery).

But even if I don’t get my way, and we never see additional Elusive Target suits added to the game, this change is still for the good, as it doesn’t lock successful hitmen (and hitwomen) out of completed content. And that’s pretty cool.
