The Arcanist job in Bravely Default II is similar to the Magus job from Final Fantasy III. It’s an offensive, magic-wielding job that feels very different from the Black Mage. While this class is primarily focused on dark magic, it can also combine elements to hit enemies with high-powered attacks.
You’ll unlock the Arcanist job in Chapter 4, while playing through the main story. To earn this asterisk, you must face off against Vigintio, a long-dead man that was resurrected by dark magic. How do you kill a boss that’s already dead? It’s easier than you might think.
It shouldn’t take you long to defeat Vigintio after this fight starts. With just a few strong hits, he’ll be down for the count. Unfortunately, he’ll pop back again, and then again. Thankfully, you won’t need to do much more than keep defeating Vigintio as he rises. Eventually, your party will use an item against him that will keep him dead for good.
With that said, there are a few things you’ll want to watch out for during this fight. Vignitio attacks with area spells that hit your entire party at once. If you’re not careful, this could lead to a party wipe. Have a Spiritmaster use Reraise so that your party can survive his powerful attacks. Hit him with strong physical attacks, like the Thief‘s Godspeed Strike, so that he won’t stick around for long.
Once you’ve defeated Vignitio for the last time, you’ll be rewarded with the Arcanist asterisk. This job specializes in dark, dangerous magic that can be difficult to use, but it’s still worthwhile to have at least one character level this job. It stands out from the other magic-wielding classes in the game, and it’s very effective against a certain late-game boss.
